The nonprofit JKLSmiles made donations to The Block Gives Back’s annual book bag giveaway.

The Block Gives Back on Saturday hosted its annual book bag giveaway outside its shop at 6831 Torresdale Ave. in Tacony.

As part of Block 2 School, the group filled 1,000 book bags with notebooks, folders, crayons, glue sticks, pencils, rulers and hand sanitizer.

In addition, the nonprofit Jess’ Kind Little Smiles contributed toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss and stickers and held a drawing for an electric toothbrush.

City Councilman Bobby Henon donated hot dogs, rolls and folders.

State Rep. Joe Hohenstein attended the event, which also featured music and free hamburgers, chips and drinks, along with Block Gives Back merchandise for sale. ••
